Community Font Classification | |||||||||||||||||
Why can't we have some combination of CDDB database (which looks up album information for CDs on your computer) and Audioscrobbler (which compares your musical tastes to those of others and teases out trends) to create a software program that would allow users to contribute typeface description and classification (both formal and informal classification systems accepted) so that graphic designers and typeface junkies could search their fonts based on specific keywords and find slight variations on fonts? Functionality could be extended to locate fonts that meet criteria that could be purchased and downloaded or separated out by era, typeface designer, font foundry, characteristics, etc. If it were networked, a user could build on the existing data entered for a particular font (identified by filename) and download the font metadata and contribute his or her own terms and descriptions. I've got about 2,000 fonts right now and have a hard time finding what I need quickly.
