GPS-base road charging | |||||||||||||||||
Rather than pay an annual road-license tax, use the GPS system to record which roads used at what times that the actual load on the transport network be a variable in calculating road tax... this way people who use the system more and load it more (requiring road widening and such) are charged logically more road tax for their preferences... and those that use rural roads are likewise fairly charged for their load on the road network.

Are you sure Sweetheart isn't a pseudonym for someone in the UK Dept of Transport? This is an idea which is being floated in the UK, but since it seems that people here are only to assumed to vote in defence of one freedom - to drive how far and fast they like, when they like, no government in a democracy has the guts to try it.Christopher UK
