I've noticed over the last couple years that banner ads have been adding little flash games. Upon winning the game you are brought to the company website of the banner ad.

Why not create a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game inside of a banner ad! As you play the game you are interacting with thousands of others who are currently enjoying the banner ad. The benefit? People would spend even more time on your banner ad and even interact with each other about your product. Company employees can go around the game making references to the company and promoting the products. R0x0r on l33t d00ds.

I imagine someone might get an idea to encourage the proliferation of cockroaches but I would not be in favor.

yeah I'm sure it will happen. I mean advertising is prevassive enough, but there are a lot of flash games on yahoo etc. the major problem with your idea is that both java and flash aren't exactly geared towards this type of programming. I mean 3d environments are pretty intensive. still you could have a flash banner that when clicked opened up to full screen and then began to load the level... ahh man the networking though... the networking... regardless making advertising more valueable by adding this type of content is already happening and it wouldn't surprise me if someone is working on this right now. after all broadband + flash + auto-install. think of guild wars. the client is like 2 megabytes and the program downloads each level as you play.

This could really work. Sell it to Google! The key should be to have this massive MMORPG which is NOT accessible from a fixed URL but ONLY through randomly-placed banner ads all over the internet, triggered by a set of key words as Google already does. Then as people try to get back on the game the second or third day, they start looking for all the sites that mighthave the gateway ad! But, put this way, this becomes a great solution i search of a problem! I mean, who would want to pay to have people look for a secret gateway into a game?
