Concept: Personal memory module. It would be a unit one would carry with them somehow.

It would have 3 "modes" of operation.

Mode 1 would be "Wide" , where it would work like RFID and emit a programmed (possibly rolling, or otherwise secure), uniqe ID code, upon request from an authorized transponder.

Mode 2 would be Near ID/Transfer, where a transponder can read and write low speed data to the unit, to/from locations it is authorised to.

Mode 3 would be "Close", where all areas could be read/wrote, except secure areas reserved by secure parties. The user would only be able disable "secure" areas, and the "Wide" ID. It would be high speed and high density. It might include a public "scratch pad" one could use to exchange phone numbers with, from a cell phone.

The secure area would have an area the "secure" party(EG a store, for POS payment, or rewards points) could read and write from, where the user has no access to, and a sister location where either the "secure" party and only write and verify, and user read or read/write, or both have RW priveleges.

There is a form of RFID that can be read up to 600 feet away and the chip is the size of a grain of rice; or was that of a grain of sand. Anyway, you could combine two of your modes with one low-cost chip. I'm not sure what use an infrared port would be, but a bluetooth connection would be nice. Actually, why not just use a bluetooth or wi-fi enabled device with maybe a USB hardwire connection? That way you can bounce off of existing technologies (USB Flash Drives) and just add the bluetooth connection. I would be surprised if this doesn't already exist.
