iPod Compressor/Limiter | |||||||||||||||||
Problem: after downloading songs to the iPod, the volume level of each of the songs can vary significantly -- requiring changing the volume often from one song to the next. Radio stations get around this problem by running songs through a compressor/limiter as they broadcast them. Potential Solution: include a compressor/limiter function with the iTunes software or on the iTunes site.

This has been a feature in iTunes for a long time. In the current version of iTunes, it's found in preferences under "Audio", as the "Sound Check" feature. "Automatically adjusts song playback volume to the same level."
Respectfully, in terms of audio quality the iTunes algorithm for adjusting the volume level among songs is very different than running those songs through a compressor/limiter.
iPod 5th Gen has the Sound Check feature like iTunes, Not sure if others have it, but that's beside the point.
A compressor/limiter would not only adjust the volume from song to song but continuously. I personally think it's a good idea because I can't stand not being able to hear the "quiet" parts of songs then being blasted by the "loud" parts after you've turned it up!
