A Better Kitchen Sink | |||||||||||||||||
For anyone who bakes & cooks a lot, using the typical kitchen sink is frustrating. I think they're poorly designed for serious cooks. Rather than having faucets placed on a horizontal surface at the back of the sink, they should be on the back vertical surface of the sink that's been extended up the back. That way, when one turns taps off & on with dripping or dirty hands, it will drip into the sink, not all over the back of the counter - less clean up. And when designing a double kitchen sink, one side should be larger & deeper to accommodate large pots & baking dishes. Do you know how hard it is to wash large sized pans without slopping some water around? Many large pans barely fit into standard sinks. It would also be nice to have a built-in drainboard on one side with a slight slant into the sink so wet dishes could be placed to drain without the need for trays & drying racks. I've seen sinks like this made for European kitchens, perhaps because most Europeans still cook a lot.

One problem is universally solved here in Finland where a wall cabinet over the sink is furnished with an open bottom and a wire drying rack so that dishes washed can dry within the storage cabinet over the sink freeing horizontal space on the sink surface.
Italy has this, too.
After seeing them in England several years ago, I have been looking for cabinets with built-in dish drying racks. I can't find them here in the US. Can you recommend any companies from which I might be able to order them?
