Automobile Safety Sensor | |||||||||||||||||
Reduce rear end collisions with a sensor that measures the distance between you and the car in front of you. For every ten feet of your vehicle’s length, you need to allow at least one second of following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. For speeds in excess of 40 MPH, add an additional one second. I recommend that car companies develop a sensor system that measures the distance between you and the car in front of you and based on the speed that you are traveling calculate a safe distance to maintain. When you get too close to the car in front of you a translucent warning light that is built into the windshield is triggered. This could significantly reduce the number of rear end collisions.

Such a sensor has already been developed and even goes further than to give a warning, it actually slows your car down and maintains the preset distances for the speed you are travelling. It comes as part of a driver assist and real cruise control system.Of course it is only available from some OEMs and at a price.
