What about a warning system that either has visual or audial alarms when you're parking your car and getting too close to another one. A simple radar would do the trick, and moreover, this technology would help when you've got cruise control on while driving the interstate.
I know some cars already turn it off when you get too close to the vehicle ahead, but the warning system would allow more flexibility.
It's too bad that our evolved regular visual warning system isn't enough for alot of people.
And I'm sorry this idea implicitly condones the driving of behemothtron vehicles.

The new toyota prius, hybrid car, does this and more. It actually has sensors that allow it to parallel park itself without your help.
I can't off the top of my head think of any new cars that are being sold that don't have this as an option, except they're generally sonar-based, which does limit the useful range somewhat. The newer systems will give you a fairly good picture of the shape of the area behind (or in front) of the car, not just an alarm.
Or, just have roadside assistance coverage be expanded to include sending a parking attendant out to wherever you are.
