I'd like to propose that all car makers re-design the car horns so that when the button is pressed on the steering wheel, the horn sounds for no more than .5 seconds, regardless of the duration the button is pressed. To beep agian, the user would have to let go of the button and press it again. This would make all of the overzealous hornblowers out there have to work a little harder to get their useless point across.

The incessant and inappropriate beeping of horns, by cab drivers and idiot drivers only looking to piss someone off, really grates on my nerves and only causes more frustration and disorientation to the other drivers.

Ever been stuck in traffic and not know where you are? Then some jack4$$ lays a long 5 second wailer on you? Don't you feel all enraged and more confused at your surroundings? I do!

As much as I dislike car horn beeps, the average use of the horn to emphasize the impatience is usually a long series of short beeps which this solution would only exacerbate.

A further thought on the problem. Perhaps, with modern audio capabilities, instead of a beep, the car horn could emit a bit of music. Something from Debussy for mild attention and something Wagnerian for more forceful attention. Possibly the tune could be chosen by the user to express his/her personality and emotional range.
