With On Demand television, pay per episode and DVR on the rise, companies are looking elsewhere to run their commercials since viewer can fast forward the commercial. However, there are still times when a viewer wants to see what is available in the market e.g. when I am in the market for cars, I want to watch commercials about cars on my TV, describing what sports car is available and where. So, allow people to choose what types of commercials to watch in the episode they buy.

I sympathize with the motive but doubt that advertisements are the best source for hard information about products. They seem mostly to be concerned with peripheral or emotional qualities about the product with small respect for reality.

For some reason, I think that would lead to less screen time for Tampax.

Seriously though, that would force the station to ask less money from the commercials that people wouldn't watch if they couldn't
