Online Polling | |||||||||||||||||
I was just thinking about elections since we recently had elections. The long lines of people coming to poll their opinion....then at some polling booths violence also took place....I'm just a kid in computer field.....but all the experience persons say everything is possible with computers... So my mind goes on to say....why can't we have elections online...my knowledge might not be great in the internet....but can't we elect our leaders sitting at home........

Since everything is possible with computers the possibilities for hacking into election results is rather daunting as to the quality of the results. The last two presidential elections are still doubtful in the minds of many people and one which might take place out of maleable computer results is, at least for me, hair raising. (I am not bald).
Thankyou Sand for ur invaluable response but I would like to know....whether we can have such a security environment & secure technique apart from manmade corruption that we can have safe data maintainance....
This can be done, but the problem is still and always will be its only as good as the worst programmer (weakest link). If you have one little calculation off... bad results. They are working on E-voting right now... I just watched a TV show on it the other day. It still has many problems. Now no one has to bring the internet into the picture, you can just use leased lines to transmit the data... so whats to stop someone from just erasing all the data all togeather? Wouldnt you think no data is just as harmfull as tampered data when an election is concerned? If you had an area you knew was going to vote bush, whats to stop some local freak from using an EMF (electromagnetic feild) to mess everything up? I am not saying it wont happen... because it will... but even after it happens... it needs alot of work. So many points of failure....
