Thieves who want to steal a car which they think has a satellite tracker on it usually leave it parked a few blocks from their house for a few days to check that no one comes looking for it with their tracking system.

I think to get around this they may start using tarps made out of lightweight copper mesh which they throw over the car and block the satellite signals or put the car in a shielded garage while they locate and disable the tracking unit.
