Whatever happened to the old good "mixed tape" in the age of CDs, downloads and ever present burning activities. Notwithstanding these developments there is still large, albeit shrinking, population of folks using web and the computer power to a limited extend.

How about offering a mixed disc at retail outlets by burning tailoerd made discs 'a la carte' What an improvement on theme collection CD. :)

It's called a playlist. Just about all media players support them.

With services like iTunes, and the complemetary portable players growing, that is exactly the way the music industry is leaning, and how people are choosing and enjoying their music content, if they are not like me and listen to the radio mostly.

I heard of a company that offered a "mixed CD to order" service, but I doubt they went very far.

The first comment may have missed the "at retail outlets" -- such as the mall. I wonder if Sam Goodey should offer on-the-fly downloads to ipods for the same 99 cents -- at the store. It may seem crazy, but people like to get stuff right at the time they think of it, such as when a pack of teens are wandering/shopping. Those CD stores should do ringtones, too. (maybe they do?)

I would add an Amazon-like feature "people who downloaded that song also got these songs" and sell for a small discount. So push a playlist/mixtape bundle, in the store.

If my store sold CDs, I'd hook it up with internet downloads & get a piece of that action.

...Starbucks has been doing this for years. They have 8 screens, you find the songs you want and order it to burn them on a CD. They even provide you with a case. Possibly other features, but I've never used it. Voting No, in hopes that this dies a quiet death.
