Stoplight aid for tall people | |||||||||||||||||
Tall people have trouble seeing stoplights "through" the roof of the car, especially if they stop close to the light, or if the approach to the light is downhill. One solution: Mount a fresnel lens at the top of the windshield to make a "fisheye". It's not optically perfect, but it's enough to see when the light changes without craning your neck down around the steering wheel.

In Helsinki the problem is solved by installing a miniature stoplight at eye level lower down on the pole.
I recently took a trip to Canada, and I noticed their stop lines are much further back than ours in the states. This solves the problem of the light being out of your field of vision, and I'd imagine it prevents quite a few accidents.
Go to a classic car show sometime and see how this was done with a glass prism on the dashboard circa 1950's.
I had a dashboard prism that worked well, but lost it when I sold the car and forgot to remove it. I am actively searching the net for another. If successful I will advise
Found it! Here's one approach
