What is wrong with some people? Doesn't everyone realize that when you compile and release malicious code that you're not sticking it to the man or screwing the system. You're hurting the little guy, the average shmuck who buys a computer because they want to keep up with the times only to find out that they would be safer going bareback with an Okinawan lady of the night. This is not right. This is just wrong. I know this does not pertain to 99% of the readers. It does pertain to the select few who think it would be funny to watch everyone run around scared to use the internet or to buy a computer that will need hundreds of $ worth of "protection" that don't do a d*** bit of good when everything gets hacked in less than 24hrs. There are only 4 reasons that I can see for writing malicious code. 1. You have some grudge against the "system". Join the F'ing crowd. You want to hurt the man, move to Seattle and start a boycott. 2. You are the "man", "the system" or part of the hidden agenda and want to spead your fear for your own selfish reasons. Get a life, you cowards and study history. If you lead they will follow. Don't use fear to lead. That's how Hitler led. 3. You work for a company that sells anti-malware software (anti-virous, addware, spyware and other assorted bad things) and are employed to think up and release new and more devious bad things so said company can profit and stay in business. This is so heinous and greedy that I can't even imagine. It is comparable to invading a country for their oil and raising the price at home to help finace the oversea's oil acquisition efforts. All the while your company profits and your customers suffer. You greedy SOB's. 4. You wirte malicious code because you can. Wow, you're smart enough to hack the family gateway. Good job, now why don't take a good idea like Healing Viruses by deefactorial and apply the same effort.

When you add up points one to four, you get nothing. So here's an idea, instead of spreading the s*** how about grabbing a shovel and start cleaning some of it up? There is way too much of it in the world as it is.

If you liked what you read, pass it on. If you didn't, pass it on to someone who might.

I have no inside information on the subject but the general impression I get is that the morality of troubles on the net are caused by people intent on mischief who elevate their minuscule egos by how much chaos they can create. It seems to me useless to appeal to a better nature that doesn't exist.

yeah, just a pipe dream:(

It's sad to think about any of these scenarios. At the same time, though, they serve as relevant analogies to many non-computer related issues we face in the world today. #1 is a description of terrorism: people with a grudge against one party hurt another party who has little or no relation to the actions of the first party. #2 is how our government uses terrorism to keep us even more afraid. As paranoid as it sounds, I'm convinced they let bad things happen to us just to keep us afraid and dependent on their "protection". #3 describes prescription drug companies perfectly. They profit from the sickness of others, but because they provide us the medicines we rely on, we cannot question them. This can be fixed by creating a non-business oriented scientific community of drug manufacturers. The same can be said about anti-virus companies. A free, independent source of competition would put them out of business. #4 is probably the most disturbing of all, since there's no real logic behind it.

Grab a shovel indeed.

The big problem with enlightening the masses is that for every 100 people 98 of them are happy being ignorant of the world situation. One of them is aware and tries to change it and the other one is part of it.

People make viruses to brag that they got the biggest poopoo... just like you are creating for them. I manage several companies technology, and I get a call about once a week saying "Well I got this email that said they where the system admin, and I needed to fill out this form or something so I opened it, but now my computer is all messed up" Hmmm, one way to look at it is that viruses are really bad... I look at it as its puting food on the table. :-)

crazydart, viruses put food on your table like the war in Iraq puts money in exxons pocket.
