Do the animals that are tranquilized and tagged (amongst other thing) tell their fellow animals about there experance's. "Heaya Bob, how'd you get that colar on your neck" "I don't know, I was down by the crick getting a drink and all the sudden I felt this sharp pain in my back side and it was lights out. Then I woke up I was in a differant spot, the sun was lower and there was this colar on my neck." Or are the ridiculed like UFO abducties. "Frank, whats that on your ear" "I can't talk they are listing" "Who Frank, who's listing?" "The Humans man, they took me and did horbile things to me I woke up ..." "Agh theres no such thing as humans Frank."
If you think about it there is no diferance between what we as humans do the "lower" life forms of this planet and what has or is said to have happend to countless people and cattle around the world. Is this what we will do when we reach the stars?

Considering the technical difficulties involved we have quite a long time to worry about what we will do when we reach even the very closest stars.
Not just the technology that we will use should be considered but also what are we going to do when we get there. When we make contact with an alien race for the first time, are we going to dissect them, shake there hands or blow them up?
Humanity, as is evidenced by our lack of concern for the poor and sick humans in our contemporary world, seems incapable of behaving well towards our fellow intelligences. Our progress in communication with dolphins and chimpanzees and whales has been minuscule. It is doubtful that we will be able to even recognize a really alien intelligence, much more to treat it compassionately. A very large proportion of US citizens still believes the Sun revolves around the Earth and that humans co-existed with dinosaurs (see Kristof's NY Times column December 6 2005) so I sincerely doubt our capability to behave well towards a really alien intelligence if we can recognize it. We probably wil eat it or enslave it or merely wipe it out as we did to the dodo or the passenger pigeon. Or, if the intelligence is equivalent to ours, it might eat us.
The proof that there is inteligent life outside our universe is that they have not tried to contact us. . . ;-)
I can see it, "Zaght, look at these silly bipeds, killing each other over inefficient fossil fuels. When will they evolve?"
Woaaah!! Monkeys armed with nuclear weapons and slaves to their primitive emotions and instincts.....turn back now........
I think they stopped us at the moon be for we could contaminate the rest of the universe, or other petrie dishes or what ever is out there.
What most people don't realize is that the bulk of alien life on Earth now is bacteria. Humans rely on intelligence to fight back but aliens are much cleverer by mutating to evolve solutions to their problems. They don't need intelligence as we conceive it. And they are getting ready for a major assault with their bird flu component.
