Universal Outlets | |||||||||||||||||
Having been to several different countries, i've experienced several different types of electrical outlets. This can be extremely frustrating when you are trying to use appliances or charge something, but it requires different voltage. Converters work, but, often when you are in a foreign country and do not speak the native language they can be hard to find, and sometimes poorly made which can be dangerous. Oh, and why not get rid of regional codes on dvd's and games for gaming systems. I'm sure there has to be some sort of reason why they have them, however, I cannot imagine why. If cd's do not need region codes, why should dvd's?

Universal outlets would be expensive to implement, becuase they would require an internal transformer to handle multiple voltages and a plethora of outlets to plug in to. However, they would make sense in hotels with numerous foreign guests.
DVDs have region codes to prevent piracy, although this seems like a flimsy excuse. They just want you to buy more dvd players and game consoles.
Many stores carry kits with transformers and multiple outlets for use in foreign countries.
