Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a kitchen appliance that could record every detail of what we just cooked and then store it? How long you cooked the meal, the exact ingredients and how much of it, what pan you used etc… this way you could have your favorite meals cooked perfectly every time.

But I don't want the same taste every time. There are always extra things in the refrigerator to throw in to make a new experience. If you have any experience whatever in cooking you know more or less how it will turn out. A meal is an adventure and the more new ways you experiment with, the more interesting things happen which leads to new ideas. I don't manufacture meals, I explore possibilities.

so you never wanted to eat the exact same meal more than once? i dont find any truth to that

kit84, Feb 19 2006

That's your problem.

You could always write down what you started with, what you were adding, how much of it you added, how long you cooked it, and the temperature you were cooking it at while you were creating this meal. When you had enough of these records written down you could compile them into a tome for all to read. You could call it, maybe, a cookbook.

And if writing isn't your thing perhaps a notebook computer could sit on the counter for you to record these actions. . .

sand i think you need a life man... you don't have a favorite kind of food? what kind of a person are you. i think you are lonely and should seek some help.

This'd be great for foods that are hard to cook. I make cheesecakes, and they never come out the same. In fact, they seem to progressively taste worse. I suggest adding a rating system, where you input a score for each batch. The appliance could then sort by user ratings... or even put the results online and compare your "perfect" recipes with others'.

Mito, I am touched by your concern for my life style. As someone constantly experimenting with all aspects of my life to discover new ways to appreciate being alive I continually discover new and unusual and good things to cook and eat. I pity people who must standardize their existence and pick favorite and boringly repeatable ways to establish their sense of security nd well being. I do discover basic principles in cooking to get predictable results but each effort in utilizing these fundamentals usually results in new and interesting meals. Of course there are occasional disasters but they are highly instructive and further my general concepts. Life is an adventure.

This idea is efficient in making a proper way to things. Actually it is not making things too fixed. It is going to help you in tracking what you want to do again. You have the choice to follow your previous menu of not. Right? It also mixes adventure..becuase you will get to record what you are doing inside the kitchen.

Maybe a camera with a timer?

Sinus, Mar 16 2006

This one's easy. Just get an old VCR and some tapes (you can pick up stuff like this real cheap these days) and a videocamera. Then record every meal you cook. If you like a particular meal, you can save the tape, otherwise, record over it. If you wanted to get really inventive, or if you find the camera makes you uneasy, you could act like you are hosting a cooking show. If your recipes catch on, you could find yourself on TV. Even if you don't win fame you can still be the star of your kitchen. :)
