Central Software System | |||||||||||||||||
Why not have a central software system for Windows, Mac etc. Instead of upgrading eg from Win98 to Win2000 and Vista. The software will be at Microsoft and users will access via a network like internet.

I don't think Microsoft would go for that, since they make tons of money every time they make a new OS.
Microsoft likes this idea too. They have tried to implement it in the past but many people resisted because then they would also start charging you a per month fee to use their software.
For the complexity of most OSes, it might be a bit complex for over the internet. Over a local netwrok maybe, and PCs can run doskless over a network wth Linux.
" error- the connection to the microsoft server could not be found. "
There are already a number of pieces of software that run through the web. All you need is a fairly recent web browser and you'll have access to word processors, spreadsheets, email clients, and more.
I am currently conflicted on whether the applications should be hosted on some big business server or on household servers. They each have their pros and cons. My gut is telling me that the future holds a combination of the two.
I agree to the move towards thin clients.
I disagree to having so much of a reliance upon a company that is more concerned with making money than it is with customer security and privacy.
So, I'll lock my vote in as 'No opinion'.
