The several mining disasters recently involved locating trapped miners. If they were not reached in time their limited air supplies could run out and they would not survive. So it is vital to locate each of the miners quickly in order to save them. If an RFID system were manditory in all mine shafts to maintain the location of each of the miners at a central control on the surface the rescue forces could be sure where each man was when entrapped, rescues could take place more quickly with a better chance at success.

Of the recent mining disasters, the issue was getting to where the miners are, not finding the. RFIF licatino could be accurate to a point

Nevertheless, it is conceivable that an individual location system could be useful. Since RFID tags have a very limited range, a workable system would require some way of sensitizing working areas for longer distance transmission to a central area, probably on the surface.
