Rather than having a lame wedding registry with Crate and Barrel where your friends and family have to pay inflated prices, why not create an open source wedding registry?

The open source wedding registry consists of a wishlist of items, which well-wishers can purchase from any vendor they choose. To make things easier, there should be an integrated comparison shopping engine to show where you can buy the items most economically.

Once the well-wisher buys an item, they check off the item from the list.

This would A) let the bride and groom choose items from anywhere, not just the selection of a single retailer, and B) let the guests buy the gifts at the best possible price.

Sounds like a great idea...then you can get what you want (like the 2nd tivo you've been wanting for the bedroom) vs. getting a bunch of over priced kitchen gear that you'll never end up using!
