Ever have an argument with your significant other where you swear they said something and they say they didn't. Simply rewind the small voice recorder embedded in your watch (or whatever) and see who is right. The recorder continously records looping every x hour, depending how much memory it has.

The device could be USB enabled to retrieve the data and thereby no speakers or playback would be required, or it could have speakers.

I don't think I would personally buy this product as a stand-alone device but if my mp3 player had this or my watch or my cell phone I would use it.

Perhaps this idea belongs on halfbaked.com but I thought I'd toss it out there.

A "security-camera" type recorder could be useful for documenting certain events, however:

1) I would not use it in arguments with significant others. It's better to develop some real relationship skills rather than rely on machines. Specifically, if you ever get into a dispute over who said what, just drop it and move on.

2) It could violate privacy. In many (most) contexts of our life, we expect that we are not being recorded. A person who is constantly recording everything is a jerk.

I think this a great idea and has some potential. I use a variety of digital recorders (Sony and Olympus) to record conversations to help ME with recall of detail afterwards - in meetings and therapy sessions and phone calls. The law in the UK is that this is not illegal - but it cannot be used as evidence unless the permission of the other party is obtained.

The main problems of using a watch are....1. Power consumption - it could cost a fortune in power cells

2. A good, exposed microphone would be required - my watch is under a sleeve most of the time

Perhaps if it was easily turned on and off, then this could make it more usable. Maybe putting this facility in a phone (that has more battery power and is always exposed) would be a good idea.

Lots of existing recorders use voice activated recording so that its only recording when there is audio...I remember doing this for recording friends that talked in their sleep years ago. I think the feature is called vox.
