I propose that social-networking services add a new function to their system—Ripple credit. This system keeps track of IOUs between users, and would be easy to integrate into existing social networking services, and would be especially useful for younger users who often don't have cash on hand. This helps users who would otherwise barter services with each other (for example, trading a ride to school for help with homework), since they can exchange IOUs rather than needing to explicitly exchange one service for another. This system becomes even more powerful as users can pass on their IOUs, so that if I trust that my friend will honor his IOUs, I can accept an IOU that he gave to another person in exchange for a service.
