Why are DVD players so wide? All the cheap ones are thin boxes as wide as a TV. No easy place to put them, and they are too flimsy to put under your TV, they would be crushed.

They should be no wider than the DVD, like a small HiFi stack, smaller but taller. That way I could put it in a corner or in a bookcase.

OK, portable DVD players are smaller, but they are a lot more expensive, have an unnecessary screen and somteimes don't have a TV output socket.
