I dislike shoes in the summer and prefer sandals. But I have had the problem of walking on a gravel path and getting gravel between my socks and the sandals. I have discovered that gluing a thin strip of foam plastic, about 1/4 inch thick, around the top front edge of the sandal to form a thin lip prevents the gravel from getting into the sandal and makes walking much easier.
