I'm currently a college basketball player and it seems like once a year we try to take a step back and look at how the nutrition of our diets affects our performance on the court. Every year it seems like everyone is very attentive to the minutiae of "whether to eat egg whites as opposed to eggs w/ yolks" but doesn't pay attention to /doesn't care enough to take care of probably the most important factor in overall physical well-being throughout a workout: staying hydrated. I've seen these nutrition presentations year after year and each time tuned that out, thinking it unimportant. Well, this year, as our workouts began, I made a conscious effort to carry around a Nalgene bottle and drink water throughout the day. The benefits were unbelievable. Not only did I feel better during my workouts, my body recovered faster and I felt better througout the day.

My idea is a chart (about the size of a bookmark), that doctors give out, that has different shades of pee corresponding to different levels of hydration. After putting it up next to the toilet, it seems like it would be a simple matter of checking your level of hydration everytime you go to the bathroom. If you need more water in your system, it's immediately evident and you could go drink a glass from the tap at once. By making peoples' hydration level salient, it will cause them to be better hydrated, and feel better throughout the day.PS- Perhaps doctors should give out a Nalgene/water bottle too so people have a container that they can keep with them and fill with water.
