Radioactive warning | |||||||||||||||||
Although radioactivity can be dangerous, humans have no basic sense to warn of its presence. There are some substances that fluoresce on the presence of radioactivity and it would be simple to print labels using inks incorporating these substances. These labels incorporated in signs posted in public areas would warn if a terrorist had placed a radioactive source in a public area by glowing to show the danger.

That would be overkill. I once bought a radioactive safety device that beeps if it detects radiation. I thought it would detect microwave radiation and TV radiation too. But then the manual said it would detect only radioactive radiation
A spot of responsive ink would be far more economic than a manufactured device for warning about a normally undetectable danger. It would provide a form of safety easy to distribute and supplement other safety devices with a minimum of difficulty and expense.
Stamens of the spiderwort plant are known change color when exposed to radiation.
Having a device to detect very low levels of radioactive contaminants in food and drinking water would be more useable.
Here we go again with another "Chicken Little--the sky is falling" Why not get a life--you are in a lot more danger just crosing the street or driving!!!
