Lighting for Clothes | |||||||||||||||||
You know how optical filament is used to make those toys that light up and usually the ends of the filament are glowing some color? Cool to make clothing out of that stuff connected to a light source. Then with some added sensors you could change colors depending on your mood, your speed, your temperature, your pulse, your % blood alcohol level, what team you are on, whether you are ovulating or not, or whatever. Nifty to wear at clubs, frat parties, sporting events, night jogging. Put it in hats, jackets, kids clothes, inmate uniforms, whatever. If you put the "ends" of the fibers in certain spots on your shirts you could turn on and off some of them so that your shirt is making different pictures or saying stuff - like rotating from "Go" to "Braves!" with a picture of a tomahawk. Hopefully someone knows how to make WAY thinner fiber b/c otherwise, this idea's going nowhere!

Recently saw a picture of illuminated dress in current issue of ReadyMade. Looked great. Meanwhile. there are plenty of folks who put LEDs and lightsticks in clothing. Check out<a href= http://www.glowin-a-fuseproductions.com/glowear/illuminatedclothing.htm> and <a = href="http://www.neontrim.com/clothes.html>.
There is something called the Electroluminance (EL), which is a very thin strip of light emitting 'thing'. ELs have been used on sneakers for kids. If you put them in clothing, maybe the wearer's own movement can even generate energy??
The latest Scientific American features on its cover a flexible monitor screen which is in development. Insofar as clothing relates to this, ID tags could be part of clothing so that they could be turned on and off and modified for specific occasions. Also,perhaps dress patterns themselves could be tuned in and out to change appearance with perhaps continuously changing pictures that might be tuned to a local TV channel or be activated by a CD.Aside from clothing, optic fibers could be incorporated into a hair net or a form of intermix with natural hair to sparkle and glow and change color.
There is a company, Ceelite, that is manufacturing the thin light you speak of... but it's not EL, the new stuff is called LEC, for light-emitting capacitor, and it's as white as white can get as far as I'm concerned.It's a very interesting substrate to work with and something I would like to get people talking about on this website in fact!!!!sorry for the bsp, but this stuff needs to be seen. -Chuck http://evo-lite.com
According to this video, circa 1930ish, we all would be wearing light bulbs by the year 2000.
