MyClassSpace | |||||||||||||||||
Objective: To develop a web space for a course which has both shared public area and personal area for class learning and class assignments. We all, to certain degree, encountered the problem of working on class assignments at home, during work spare time and during traveling. Sometimes we are working on different version of the assignments at different places. Sometimes we are missing one key reference of an assignment. This can be even more complicated when an assignment requires inputs from multiple people of a study group. A web space dedicated for each course can reduce these problems and provide an easier experience in carrying out assignment with several additional benefits: 1) Shared learning materials, references, or templates. 2) Shared discussion forum on issues, difficulties and feedbacks both from current class and previous knowledge. 3) Version control, data backup, and filing 4) Group assignment project management. Progress monitoring and data sharing. 5) Easier assignment submission, grading, filing, and reporting. 6) Reviewing recorded in-class or group discussions This concept can be applied to different level of students. For example I have had hard time to learn what was going on in school for my 8-year son Anthony. It takes a lot of inquiries just to learn a little bit about his class activities. The web space would allow parents to monitor the class activities, response to notices, etc. His teacher can write a simple re-cap of the class for each day to improve information sharing and allow parent work with their child more effectively.

There's already a software very similar to what you describe. to check it out, go to www.digication.com
This sounds like Blackboard. It's use is pretty common in most American Universities now.
Blackboard has most of the functions. Does anyone know the reason of not being widely adopted by most of the schools particularly the K-12 schools?
Its like the Blackboard.
I checked out Digication and it actually seems a like a really intuitively way to use... Which has always been my complain when using Blackboard. I think that is indeed the reason that blackboard is so not widely adopted. Also, Digication is free to sign up and can be signed up in less than 2 min (like most Web 2.0 software these days)... comparing to blackboard, which is REALLY expensive and takes months to implement, could make a huge difference in the educational world.
