If two mirrors joined at the edge in a right angle with the reflective surface facing out are placed on the hood of a car with the apex of the angle pointed at the driver and the side mirrors are moved slightly forward from their current positions, a double periscope is formed to permit the driver to glance downward, while keeping attention on the road, to check easily on both sides of the car . It is then not necessary to turn the head to observe traffic on the front and sides.

Depending on the angle mirrors on the front of the car would catch the headlights of the cars perpendicular to the car and 'blind' the driver forcing them to look to the left and right. Even if they did not catch perpendicular car's headlights they would catch the headlights of other cars at different positions and still 'blind' the driver.
Moving the side mirrors forward eliminates some head turning and keeps the driver's focus in front of them but makes it difficult to clean/defog or move the mirrors should they require it.
Also looking to the left and right is not very hard to do if it is then the driver should probably not be driving.
