LED Christmas Lights | |||||||||||||||||
A major hassle with Christmas lights is that the bulbs burn out. With LED bulbs you wouldn't have that problem. They also do not generate heat, so would be less of a fire hazard. LED bulbs use less energy and can be just as bright as regular incandescent bulbs. Seems like this should be easy enough to make, just need to figure out how to market it.

I support the idea. The city of LA is converting traffic light bulbs to LED bulbs for the same reason.
I have that at home. A few years ago I got tired of searching for the burned bulb and changed everything to LEDs. The only difference is that incandescent bulbs are omni-directional while the LEDs are directional – it creates a different ambience, which I like better but it is a matter of taste.
The LEDs could be made omni-directional with the addition of a decorative bezel. I think the leds would be a great idea and would most likely qwork as well indoors or out.
Already exists...Sorry.
The Chinese have been pumping them out for 2 years now
Also, the string of lights could have small microprocessors embedded so that the individual lights could be turned on and off by sending a serial command down the 2-wire power wires. This type of serial communication is already used in industry for controlling valves, reading sensors, ...
See LED Christmas Lights
LED Christmas lights have been around for a while now as mentioned below but the quality has improved over the years and the price has come down quite a bit so they are more affordable. They also will last for 10 years or more and are 90% more efficient than standard incandescent lights.
Preexisting, but GREAT idea. I will buy some in the future.
This is already being done. There is a company that works out of the same building that I do that is putting these together.
