The problem: Children and Special Needs adults are left unattended in private autos, vans and day care vehicles. Deaths occur when the child or adult is “forgotten” in a place of business parking lot or mall parking lot. This is a seasonal occurrence where temperature extremes cause the injury or fatality. The solution: An alarm system is connected to the individual seat or person by either wire or wireless device. A small Light Emitting Diode, (L.E.D.) panel on the dash board would display whether a seat was occupied. A microchip in the Guardian would be connected to the ignition system. A temperature sensor would be built into the system since this is the danger posed! When triggered the system would announce when a child is not removed from the car when stopping at a mall or other location where the child might be inadvertently “forgotten”. Should the key be removed while a seat remained occupied an small alarm would be sounded and the L.E.D. for that seat would blink. Should the driver leave and lock the car his absence would be noted since his driver’s seat is also monitored. The alarm system would go into “critical mode”. Headlights would flash the car’s horn would sound and a voice-recording chip would broadcast through a megaphone for all to hear, “Child at Risk! Temperature 98 degrees!” (For example). Discussion: Insurance industry would favor the adoption of this device and mirror it in their insurance premiums. You can expect the insurance industry to advertise this safety device and lobby for its adoption just as they were proactive for safety bumper, seat belts and air bags.

Children, being restless, tend not to stay in place when locked in a car. If they are tied into a baby seat that problem may not exist but a panic may be evoked by a heavy package left on the seat by a mother so forgetful as to place her child in a fatal situation.
