People with lots of change might go to a coinstar or something like that to turn there coins into bills. I think that coinstars hsould offer the option of donating the coins that dont evenly go into a dollar to be donated to charity. This would slowly but surely build up to bigger amounts of money that will be held in a seperate compartment of the coinstar. You go to the coinstar to get rid of coins so if there are some left over that dont go into an even dollar you wouldnt really want to take those coins back home. You went to the coinstar to get rid of your coins so why not give the extra ones to charity?

I doubt Coinstar would argue with you. Send them your idea (and your favorite charity). They can hold the money in an interest bearing account before they distribute it to the various entities. In the interim, they will make a nice chuck of change off the interest. You might even ask for a few coins yourself.

I've never understood the concept of coinstar from a user point of view. Here in the UK we have banks to deposit coins and it costs nothing to do it. We also have Coinstar which does cost something to deposit those coins. Why pay Coinstar for the priviledge of depositing coins - you end up with less money that way. Why not deposit your money in a bank or similar financial organisation and donate to charity what would have been the fee you would have had to pay to Coinstar if you used Coinstar in the first place. That way you and the charity wins. That being said, Coinstar ain't going to go away, so I voted in favour of the idea because it's a good idea.
