Gift Wrapping Machine. The automated gift-wrapping machine identifies gifts’ dimensions, weight and wraps presents for normal or fragile use. It chooses from different type of boxes (square, circular, cylindrical or rectangular), papers- subject based: Holidays (Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving), Birthdays (boys, girls), Anniversary, color, consistence (glossy or opaque) ribbons and bows. The customization is based on instructions provided by the users, by choosing items on a touch screen menu. The consumer can also customize greetings which can be printed on small card on the package. Time for wrapping one gift is less the 1 min for the most complex customized gift. The automated gift-wrapping machine will be designed for use in retailers’ stores or home use.

The abdication of personal judgement in lieu of a machine in what should be an exercise in creativity and delight in enhancing a gift is, frankly, appalling. Perhaps it might be useful in a commercial situation.

The mall where I do most of my shopping has a gift wrapping service. They've had it for years. It comes in real handy around Christmas when you don't feel like sneaking a present into the house.

I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate (04) from Northeastern University in Boston. Five or Six years ago, I was in a engineering design class. In that class, I was matched with three other engineers. We had then spent two semesters designing The Automatic Gift Wrapping Machine. The description you have here is virtually identical to what we had designed. We even had some interest from The New York Times about it. If you are interested in discussing this product, please feel free to contact me through this site.

I admit, at first I was a little bitter to see the description matching so close to what we had, but then I realized great minds think alike. Too often I have come up with a great idea and have seen it in a catalog months later. I do trust your idea for this is an original concept and I wish you the best of luck with it.

To most of us gift packing is difficult, tricky and boring. You may never end up satisfied even after struggling with it for hours.

I believe in making readymade pouches for gift packing,

available in different sizes,

printed in designs suitable for different occassions like vallentine day, mothers day, marriage aniversary, x-mas, Ester etc.

These pouches are available in different sizes.

Lying in a a display shelf alongside cards.

Alongwith some readymade stickers with printed messages or greetings.

All you have to do is put your gift in it, cut the extra length if neccessary and close the open side.

A practical and much easier way to solve this problem.

You may need professional help but seldom. Only for off-sized gifts, may be.

. . . isn't that called a bag?

This site is almost bordering on depressing for me, I think this is the 20th idea that I've been utterly appalled at. You must have the IQ of oatmeal, and the attention span of a cricket on crack. You want to have something that actively analyzes size and dimensions and can properly calculate the amount of material used to wrap it.

The costs would be astronomical, and anyone with a brainstem would know that. Stop being such a whiny, pathetic little pansy and take the time to show the people that you're giving these gifts too that you actually car about them enough to wrap their gift yourself. Or commit suicide, I'd prefer that.

I wonder what the Grinch would say. Oh wait, I think I've come across that recently... LOL!
