Ive seen shatter proof light bulbs and I know they exist. But I think that today we would replace all glass light bulbs with shatter proof ones. I think this beacause I have cut myself on a broken light bulb before and think when they are broken they are dangerous.

Just use CFs with a lens shield. You may have to give up incandescent within a few years, at least for general lighting.
