Suppose I am searching for flash drives. I search for SANDISK. Is it possible for Ebay to highlight not only SANDISK, but identify that SANDISK is a brand and highlight other brand names also in the titles of the search results? For example, SANDISK, PQI, SEAGATE are all other brands... Each such word is highlighted in the search result in a separate background color - if I click on it then the search is replaced by that keyword. If I search for "1 GB" then "2 GB" and "4GB" (note the with and without spaces) should also get highlighted in the titles of the items of the search results.

Why don't you just omit the brand when you search, then you'll have every resulting brand of the product?
Sounds like a wildcard would solve the second problem (don't forget about people who only want to search for 2GB and not 1GB). But wildcards are implemented in SQL all the time. Maybe this can be integrated into their search.
