A recent study in England has indicated that automobile drivers drive more dangerously near bicycle drivers who wear helmets than near those without helmets. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/5334208.stm Another observation in the study is that car drivers give long haired girls more leeway than other bicycle drivers. Rather than dispense with the helmet, which would prove dangerous, it might be possible to dsign a bicycle helmet with a long haired wig to get the benefit of both possibilities. It's a wacky idea but worth thinking about.

could you glue a wig to the helmet and couldnt the hair get in your eyes making it harder to see
It would be an interesting experiment till people caught on. Then you would probably see the "fakers" getting run over in droves as duped drivers felt slighted.
The concept that car drivers feel secure in executing anybody that violates their moral standards takes a rather poor view of humanity. I assume that most traffic deaths are accidental, not the result of nuts flying off the handle.
I would agree most deaths are accidental which leaves some as intentional for various reasons. You get to a point where trickery on the male ego could push a few over the edge and, in this case, one is too many.
Sand, I am going to assume you are male. Can you really picture yourself waving "toot-a-loo" with a confident, friendly smile as a passing trucker yells, "Nice ass Baby!"? Further, imagine the disgust on the trucker's face when he realizes you are "Sand" posing as "Sandy". I still like the idea on the concept level but would not ask my son to use this safety device.
If this crazy idea would save me from injury or death I would consider it. I am not particularly responsive to the emotional states of idiot truckers or any other social assholes.
A HELMET IS A HELMENT WITH OR WITHOUT THE WIG. THE SAFTEY IT AFFORDS IS THEMAIN CRITERIA. MOTORISTS ARE NOT ATTRACTED TOWARDS A HELMENT A BLONDE ONA BIC IS MORE LIKELY TO ATTRACT THE ATTENTION OF THE MOTORIST.
