Watch On Off | |||||||||||||||||
This would be best for digital wrist watches. People dont need to change the battery in there watch often but when it needs to be changed its a hassel. I think that digital wrist watches should have an on off button. This way you wouldnt need to change the battery as much. You could turn it off when you sleep or whenever your not using it and save a little battery time. Also wrist watches should give you a few days notice before your battery runs out. This way you know when it will die.

And when the watch is turned off it ceases to count the time. How does it stay correct?
well i guess it would be rigged by satelite or something like a cell phone as soon as you turn it on the time is correct
Many atomic watches have this feature. Try this link.
Perhaps, to save battery life, you could have some sort of level dectector that can tell when the watch is just hanging from your wrist or in a horizontal "viewing" position. Grant, it would be on in some instance when it shouldn't be (typing for one) but for the most part it would be off some of the time.
Batteries last long enough that changing them isn't realy that much of hassle. I get at least 5 years a change on my LCD wristwatch.
IMO, things like radio setting might negate the power savings of turning it off.You might be able to turn the LCD of, but savings might be minimal.
Maybe a spin on that idea... taking some other tech that is already out there. What about a watch that goes in to sleep mode to conserve power. Then when moved it quickly comes back to an fully operational state. This could be achieved using similar tech thats in the Seiko watches that charge themselves from movement.
