Electric switch ON and OFF | |||||||||||||||||
Why cant they make it in such a way that it shows like a traffic light RED at the top GREEN at the bottom. If the switch is ON then GREEN light glows. If the switch is OFF then RED light glows. The Middle part is The Infrared Sensor Black Hole. Assuming I have a Remote that is specifically coded only to control light switches that I own I can turn ON and OFF electric switches from my remote. It is something like INSTEON Instant Light switch (smarthome.com).

Green and Red apply to moving things. Many motorised devices go have a Green Start and Red Stop button.
For adding lights to switches, they would add costs, draw unnessary power perhaps, and depending on the controlled circuit/device, might not even work.
This is easily implemented with an LED, a couple of diodes, and a resistor. An LED has an expected life of about 12 years. An additional function might be to detect a load present when the switch is shut off. The power consumed is so small, a house full of them would only cost about $0.20 a month.
If you want a switch that can be remotely controlled also, they already exist as infrared and RF devices. See www.x10.com
