batteryless remotes | |||||||||||||||||
Using the same device as in the Fariday shake flash lights, use that to power a remote for your Tv,VCR, DVD, no more looking for batteries for you dead remote. The only addtion would be a capacitor to power the memory beteen shakes.

Don't let the flashlights fool you... they aren't batteryless. They've got a rechargable 3v watch battery, which would probably work fine in a remote. Good idea.
Use EEPROMs to store settings, many good remotes do.
Although my 4AA backlit LCD remote would just kill it fast.
Like it. Why not also add a docking bay on the controlled device which charges the capacitor?. If that gets the user into the habit of docking the remote at night then they'll be less likely to loose it. It may also encourage them to turn off the device properly rather than just standby. The remote being charged instantly the device is switched back on.
I like the idea, in addition to the 'shake for power' the docking station is a good idea as well, which could solve the never ending issues of where is the remote. This docking station could add a call button which would light an led light for finding and/or an audible alarm to locate.
