Job training in High School | |||||||||||||||||
So much time is wasted in high school. Most adults don't remember the history, geography, social studies, etc. that we are taught in High School. There should be a range of vocational skills that students can choose to study. Can not graduate High School until you have shown mastery of at least one vocational skill. This way if a student does not want to go to college, or needs a way to pay for college, - they can make more than minimum wage with the skill they have learned in High School.

They have them. They are called "elective courses". At least that's what they caled them in 1972 when I graduated HS.
My High School had them also. The first two years boys got rotated in the shops (girls home-ec, unless one chose to go the other way) or buisiness classes, the next two years you can choose a specialisation. You could also choose advandced maths and science courses to prepare for your future path. With some of the trade classes, you can maybe go right to apprenticeship. My brother's (different) highschool is setting up a construction tradea program also.
are you asking why even bother teaching those other courses they don't want to learn and just focus on whatever skill u need? if so i think those extra classes are good for mental development and they teach you to learn. get me?
I know a computer industry type guy who has told his sons that if they want to go into a technical field by way of college, that's fine, but they should also acquire a hands-on trade as insurance, because of the rapid changes in technology. High school students need science, history, etc, in order to have an informed electorate, but I think they should also receive vocational training.
first you got to get kids used to more than a 6 hour day,or the'll never like 10 hour work day!
