From what I understand as soon as a person turns 18 they are legally separate from their parents if they want to be. This means if they want some prescription drugs such as adderall or probably even a pain killer; they just go to a doctor and make up symptoms that could be improved by the drug they want to take recreationally. I think even though an 18 year old is legally an adult they should make it a little more difficult to get dangerous prescription drugs other than a multiple choice test they could just lie on or take multiple times to get the prescription. Possibly require a parent/guardian signature even past the age of 18 maybe until 25(or whenever; you pick the upper boundary age). I'm sure there are millions of 18 year olds who would love to have a stimulant or depressant prescription(almost everyone I know) and could overdose. Btw I haven't researched this topic; it just kinda popped in my head.

I'm sure there are plenty of 50 year olds who will play tricks to get medicines. Responsibility is not age related over a reasonable age which has legally been accepted as 18. If you want to create irresponsibility then enlarge the denial of the time for people to grasp responsibility. If an 18 year old is old enough to die for his country then he should be accorded adult status.
How about we halt the war on drugs instead? I can think of a few hundred more useful things for that money to go towards that would be far less damaging to our society. Education, investigating political corruption, digging holes to china, and just burning it all come to mind as more effective usage.
No one has the right to tell anyone, anywhere what is in their mind or body. Trying to control what is in a person's mind has done a tremendous amount more damage to lives and culture throughout history. Far more than allowing drug use and free thought ever has, or ever could.
The U.S. government already has instituted the concept of "limited adulthood". It happened when Bill Clinton signed lame duck legislation making 21 the national drinking age. The law also gave the feds the right to withhold highway funds from any state that didn't go along with the game.
So, while you can go overseas in the Army at age 18 and drink beer and booze according to the laws of the nation you are stationed in you can't get a beer while you are home on leave...Sure does make sense to the people sipping martinis while they write the legislation.
That said, I think the age defining adulthood should be the same across the board, and 18 should be that age.
its people like you who piss me off. lets make some more laws restricting our freedoms, why don't we!
