Compost needs to be rotated regularly in order to process properly. Large drums use hand cranks and gear reduction to achieve this. A solar-powered motor could do the job instead, supposing it is capable of drawing that much power.

Although it might be possible to use high technology to accomplish a simple task, I wonder if the expense of providing sophisticated equipment for an easy and quick exercise is worth it.
