To solve problems of food shortage, pollution, and environmental degradation.

In the future, after gaining extensive knowledge of florae's gentic code and of "Biotechnology" one could create a seed foundation that would grow buildings. One would place the blueprint of the home within the foundation seed itself. One would design the seed to grow only a few inches on the inside of the house plus walls. The inside walls bark, within reach, could be a composite of clove, cinnamon, cocoa and vanilla while the outside bark would be like dark green cactus. A unified branch or large appropriately placed leaves would serve as a roof. The leaves would be the width of a palm (about 2 feet) and length of a platano (about four feet long). The upper "trunk", "branches" and large leaves out of reach would contain dark rich evergreen aromatics such as; mint, basil, anise, and pine. One would "bio engineer" food producing plants into the makeup of the "tree house" to provide a nourishing liquid food source. One could tap the photosynthetic energy production and focus it genetically into a liquid grain, legume, nut, seed, and fruit matrix that was available when one needed nourishment. Using the genes of all the fruit and vegetables, aromatic herbs, plants and trees such as: baobab (for life span and girth), bristlecone pine (life span), and redwood (life span, height, insect resistance and fungal resistance), one would have a food and oxygen producing shelter that could live several thousand years and grow to functionality within the month using Kudzu dna which grows a foot a day or seawwed which grows two feet a day.

Tree Types and qualities

Ficus magnolioides - natural pleaching abilityFicus-virens - pleaching ability, canopies that grow up to 4 acres.

Giant bamboo Dendrocalamus giganteus - rapid growth, chambered insulated walls

California Kelp Macrocystis pyrifera - rapid growth nearly 2 feet a day

Cactus opuntias Lophophore Williamsii-peyote saguaro-Carnegiea gigantean- green "bark" broad branch inflorescence, drought tolerance

Redwood Sequoia sempervirens -age, height, rot resistance soft padded bark for bedding

Ficus religiosa- crown and root spread, natural pleaching ability

Bristlecone pine Pinus longaeva -age

Cork-tree Phellodendron - soft padding for under foot

Cinnamon Cinnamomum verum- aromatic bark

Baobab-age, breadth

Chilean alerce Fitzroya cupressoides dated at 3622 years old

Kudzu Pueraria Montana-rapid growth rate 1 foot a day

Grasses- rapid fruit production

Feel free to leave comments about any tree or plant qualities anyone is aware of...

Plants and trees have beeen shown to grow better when they are talked to or music is played for them which proves a kind of consciousness. Perhaps if one quieted themselves and listened to the trees and spoke with the trees one would have an easier time "bioengineering" this kind of building in the future.

I propose a group willing to research this project and to form the groundwork for this concept. I know it might take along time to get somthing like this into the works. Hopefully, that much sooner with shared interest.

Not a bad basic concept but somewhat beyond our current technology. And in a bad year the lots would be full of doghouses.

So what happens when you begin heating it in the winter?

That aside, I'd bet a fireplace would be out of the question, not to mention a few of the other amenities that make a house a home.

I have often wonder if this could be pulled off. I am glad to see that someone else, at least, considered it. The hard part is the foundation of the building and how plumbing and electrical would work in a growing environment. Pipes could get pulled away as growth continued and electrical lines could snap. Perhaps you could "program" tunnels to allow water flow, not sure how to deal with the electrical issue. Maybe put all wiring outside the structure and allow for slack. You and I will probably not live long enough to see this one happen but I am sure once we conquer DNA, and can turn the process on and off, it will happen one day.
