During the current snowstorms I have heard stories of people trapped in their vehicles for several days without food and water. A simple kit of emergency suppies to be carried permanantly on commercial and private vehicles much as the military rations used in war might be useful. They should be chosen for maximum duration with, perhaps, annual replacement to keep them in good condition.

I am puzzled by the vote in opposition. I wonder why the suggestion might be rejected

Personal planning for whatever conditions may arise is a far better bet than the false sense of security a pre-packed kit from an auto manufacturer will ever be. Most people never need more than a cell phone, map, & maybe a GPS. Packing blankets, shovels, tire chains, candles, flares, etc. isn't something your average urban commuter needs to think about but those who live in areas less urbanized need to consider such things. It is better for them to think about it and plan ahead than it is for them to rely on someone else's judgement. Travel & weather conditions aren't the same in all places.

Regarding your second post. . .A computer malfuntion prevented me from posting. Said malfuntion seems to be fixed.

There is some good sense to your comment, but I heard a news report today of a truck that had foundered in the snow and the driver was isolated in an unheated truck for a few days with no food or water. If a standard kit had been in place he might not have had such a harrowing time.

You can always pick up MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) at any army surplus store and throw a couple in your trunk. I can't imagine auto-makers suppling one, as the shelf-life would inevitably be limited and the manufacurers wouldn't want to have to deal with possible liability if someone ate a bad one and got sick.

Each region has its own types of disasters that require specific disaster supplies in one's car (SoCal earthquakes vs Northeast blizzards). Some people have kids in cars and need to have clothes for them, others don't. Besides some water, food, good shoes (which again differs by region), flashlight, tools, phone little else is generic.
