Auto Vote | |||||||||||||||||
We citizens in our democracies usually get to contribute our choices only at election time. After that, the politicians take over. Most of the time there is popular opinion from citizens on an issue, but no consensus on the same because of lack of coordination and convergence. What do you feel about every news channel having an auto vote or a voluntary vote feature, something like whynot.net, so that when reading the news on the net, everyone gets to know what is the popular opinion? In case of a consensus, there should also be a plan of action by the voters, so that timely action could be taken. The war in Iraq could have been prevented perhaps?!

Them (the news channels) voluntarily doing a viewer poll, sure, but its outcome should not be applied to policy, legisation, or the like. They should not be obligated to poll on particular matters in front of the government, and report the outcomes of those polls to the government.
If the government wants the public's opinon, they can hold a plebicite.
There need not be any necessity for preconcerted deliberate action, but a consensus helps people to understand the pulse of the news around them, besides, converging to take action if necessary. It would shake the shakles of some politicians to see that people's activism is always alive, and potentially could make the world a better place
I am not saying that their should not be consensus, just that if the governmen wants it, they collect it themselves, and not burden the private/commercial sector with the tsk.
You are talking about caring conscientious governments made up of straight-forward, honest politicians.
News agencies do polls to gauge public opinion. The polls select people randomly which gives a much more accurate picture of public opinion than voluntary voting. Voluntary voting introduces the problem of self-selection that invalidates many polls. The problem is that if you leave it up to people to decide whether or not to participate, the most extremist and fanatical will always respond more persistently than average. Consequently, the polls will always indicate that the public is more extreme than it really is.
GINIMAO: Excellent Idea
Rather than have the News Agencies providing the voting system, have the Bills put together in Congress posted on the internet and have the people read the details, interact regarding the consequences, and vote for each portion of the Bill, not just the overall Bill.
We can watch the Senate and House of Representatives interact daily by watching the dedicated channels on Cable TV. If the issues were well documented online and we as individuals could voice our opinions for our political representatives to see, then maybe our vote would be heard at election if the representative voted differently than the popular vote. Or perhaps our representative might feel inclined to more fully explain why they voted as they had.
I would like more of what is happening within our Government to be made more transparent.
