I thought of this idea recently when I used a drive-up ATM. My car sits low to the road, and I have the seat set low because otherwise I would bump my head on the roof. I drove up to the ATM as close as I could and I could barely reach the buttons because the ATM was too high. I know what the problem is: There is a wide variance between vehicles in how high the driver sits, and they are trying to accommodate the average height. My idea is to have a drive-up ATM in which the height is adjustable. That is, it has several sets of buttons at various heights, one to raise it and one to lower it, and it sits on a telescoping pedestal with a motor to raise and lower it.

This is a good idea, but I don't know if the banks would be willing to pay for it. However, if massed produced, the system might be made cheap enough for common use. It could then be used for other drive-up machines, like telephones. On the other hand, an ATM must be heavily reinforced, being a likely target for thieves, so a system for a telephone should probably use a cheaper design.
