Most people are unaware that there are African cities, such as Dakar SENEGAL, that can be reached by plane from the east coast of the United States in 8 hours or less.
Therefore, an east coast based travel agency that focused on giving people the ideal African vacation (safari, culture, et al) in a three to four day trip. If proper hotels and safaris do not exist in the area of the cities, this creates new business oppourtinties to create those as well. With the right marketing, this could be the long weekend trend of the future.

This idea sounds great. That first leg to Senegal really wasn't that bad - my only concern would be the jetlag, but other than that, i love it.
A service related business, such as a travel agency, would have low start up costs and if the Weekend Warrior to Africa market is still untapped, there is a lot of potential here.
I think that's a great idea. I was unaware Africa was a relatively short international flight away from NYC.
The idea seemed promising to me at first, until I considered the fact that there are very low barriers to entry for competitors to imitate such a travel experience/package. The first-mover in such a travel package would bear all the risks if the initiative were unsuccessful. On the other hand, the first-mover would most likely be swamped soon after demonstrating that running weekend vacations to Africa is a profitable business. There seems to be little opportunity for long-term profit.
We all need more Africa in our lives. Great idea!
I think the novelty of this product is its strength. As you noted, complimentary products are a key consideration.
Great idea -- but how do you know if these African Cities are tourist friendly? Maybe to much work and risk for to little return as a travel agency.
Ah, now here's an idea I can agree with. Put another shrimp on the barbie, Mate.
Does Africa have barbie's?;) D-
