One of my biggest gripes with travel guide books is that by the time they get to print, they are often out of date: Tour prices have gone up, a hostel no longer exists, or the quality of food has seriously deteriorated. There are some travel bulletin boards on the Internet, but they are hard to use and it is difficult to find information on specific locations.
So why not combine a bulletin board with an interactive, updatable map-based travel guide. Users could log on to the map, click on their desired destination, and read the latest information. Furthermore travelers could make updates to prices and availability, post reviews, and add pictures.

I very much agree with your comment about the current bulletin boards being difficult to navigate. Some of them are even frightening to look at. If someone could start by just making those sites more navigable, it would be very helpful.
Great idea. Lonely Planet's Tanzania guide led me astray on more than one occasion, and definitely suffers from informational bloat and haphazard organization.
Would you do this as a wiki? The possibilities for user-generated ratings, photos, and admonitions are definitely promising.
A brilliant idea! And the best: It is partly realized at ! Here anyone is invited to contribute his/her pictures to create the world's finest spot realated travel guide.
