Ziploc chip bags | |||||||||||||||||
Don't you hate it when you finish eating a bag of chips and you have to take the time to roll the open end closed and find a clip to keep the bag of chips closed? Well, I do. They should put zippers similar to the ones on Ziploc bags on bags of chips. This would be an easy way for consumers to close the bag and make sure their chips don't go stale. Also, you don't have to deal with the hassle of the chip clips.

Great idea! I can't stand leaving the chip bag open or hunting down chip clips...they already do this for shredded cheese, why not snacks!
This is a nice idea and its already being done with other snacks, so applying it to chips makes sense.
great idea. i've lost one too many bags of chips to just that problem.
Sadly, i just ate some stale pretzels. I wish this had already been done. In the past i've always used binder clips...but i currently have so many bags of food open, that i don't have enough binder clips to close them all. Great idea!
I'm all about the ziploc chip bags. They've done it with shredded cheese and other products - surprised we haven't seen this yet.
good idea, but then i can't rationalize it to myself that i'd better just finish it in one sitting...
Great Idea -- makes common sense to use it on bag of chips! Can't imagine it being that costly for the manufacturers to snap a ziploc on a bag of chips. Atleast the big ones should defintately have them!
Good idea. However, it's a fact that chip companies create their plastic bags so that they tear open more easily, forcing you to eat the chips faster. They might be resistant to this.
Great idea! The "chip clips" just don't cut it. I would be more inclined to buy a bag of chips with the ziploc...the chips will last longer.
Fantastic idea, vkpathrose. Be sure to pass it on to PepsiCo.
They already do this with the bite-sized chips-ahoy cookies... the idea being that the zip bag makes it easy to carry around and eat a few cookies for a random snack here and there.
A very practical idea, vkpathrose. I am all for it.
fresh chips are a good idea. let's ziploc them.
There is nothing worse than eating a chip that is stale! It just ruins my day. This idea is so simple but very useful. No more stale chips. Always fresh. I wonder, though, if we buy new bags of chips repeatedly to avoid the staleness--thus, I wonder if chip manufacturers would want us to incorporate this idea.
Great idea. It is already in use in India by snack makers (Haldiram's) and I love it!
This is a great idea. After reading it, I was baffled as to why it has not been widely implemented already!
Great solution! When I read it, I was suddenly baffled as to why this hasn't been widely adopted already.
Great idea and seems extremely simple to implement, leaving you to wonder why it hasn't already been done.
Great idea considering chips come in one hundred pound bags! They get stale pretty fast.
already exists.
Why has it not been done yet:)
Should be easy to implement. I see these ziplocks in lots of products. Currently I'm eating some chocolate that's in a ziploc bag.
Why have they not already done this?
great idea
Where are you VK?
This idea has already been applied in many countries. Let me know where you are so that I start marketing this in your country. Make money buddy. Contact me for worlds best prices for Zip lock bags in all possible varieties, sizes and films.
Great idea - in fact it should be considered for almost all snacks!
This is a great idea, the one challenge is that this type of packaging would be expensive. Would you be willing to pay a premium for a sealable large dorito bag?
I hate to say it, but it exists already- I can't remember the brand but my local organics store has a brand- they're really yummy. So yummy that I don't think I've ever used the function.
Great idea, but it probably hasn't been implemented because the chip companies make more money if you have to buy more chips because you left the bag open. Of course you could always transfer the chips to a big plastic bags, (thus making the plastic bag companies money:)
Breakfast. I end up opening every box of cereal and dumping the entire contents into a Ziploc, then I place a few drops of glue on both sides of the interior, place the Ziploc in the box and voila! Does anyone have success opening up a cereal bag?
There are some chips I believe, Bugles, have the zip lock zipper
Good idea. Why not even take it a step further and put several ziploc seals in increments, one third of the way down the bag perhaps. With the used portion of the bag perforated so you could tear it off. (Maybe thats overkill?)
There are off brand cerals that come in bag with a tear off top and half of a ziplock top already. Chip bags can be this way too. Also there are cookie containers that use a sticky resealable top and that could be used for chips along with a tear off top for protection. But if your home is like mine the chip bag doesn't last but a couple of days anyway with too teenagers.
They are expensive to manuyfacture. If you're willing to pay for a price increase, well, you've got more patience than me.
Zip seals are plastic, chip bags are metalized mylar. Joining the two is another manufacturing step, and not as easy as it looks. Cost is an issue. Why mess with chip clips? Clothespins work just as well.
Look what I found http://www.quickseals.com/default.php
Its already invented :(
The only technical hassle is that the chips are in a airtight nitrogen filledbag. The gas escapes once you open it. The airtight gas filled bags keeps the chips fresh. A great idea nonetheless. It wouldbe great if the chip manufacturers put the gas filled chip enclosure intoa ziploc. You unzip the ziploc and then open the air filled bag inside.Eat and zip whatever is left. Every bag of chips should come enclosed in azipper. Are chip companies watching this vital need?
great idea, so many times I have tossed stale chips!
The chips made by Target (I forget the name of their brand) already have this.
Great idea, but yes, Target's brand does have it - Archer Farms. It works really well.
how lazy are you?
you dont have the time? what? a whols minute max, to put a clip on you fat bag of chips.
if you are so lazy, you should go for a walk instead of eating a bag of chips
Just have to get the "zip" part right. I'm tired of buying zipper packages that don't work right, ruining the whole purpose I chose that brand over the other.
This is a great idea, and I have also thought of why do they not do it for cereal also, but I think we all know the answer, when they get stale, what do we do, throw them away and buy more. If only one company started doing it they would all follow for sure, GREAT IDEA!
There is a video on you tube that shows a way of sealing the top of a chip bag with only simple folds. Vid found here: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=AdhUifjOahs
This would increase the prices of the bags by several cents. That's why I immediately put my chips and pretzels in gallon zipper bags, which I can re-use a handful of times.
That would be a good idea. But there is already a way to clese it without clip.. :)

i simply think this is more of gimic than anything. a waste of materials
I love this idea but would be willing to bet that manufacturers have considered and rejected it on the grounds that, if a consumer can seal the bag, the chips will last longer and the company will not sell as much product.
I know this is already used for some products. It might not be used for chips because it would hit profit of food industry hard(chips are cheap relativily)
